New York, NY- Celebrating Women’s History Month, artist and curator Chellis Baird presents a
group exhibition titled “From the Eyes of Her,” in collaboration with the NYC Culture Club and Port
Authority of NY & NJ. This outdoor showcase, situated at the World Trade Center, unites 16 women
artists whose works offer unique perspectives on space, through materials and compositions.
Featuring the art works of Nola Ayoola, Tirtzah Bassel, Layo Bright, Hedwig Brouckaert, Hope
Buzzelli, Anna Camner, Michele Oka Doner, Dana James, Tamara Kostianovsky, Jessica Frances
Gregoire Lancaster, Anastasia Lopoukhine, Amethyst Monet, Michaela Roman, Rachel Rubenstein,
Naomi Safran-Hon and Vadis Turner, "From the Eyes of Her” delves into the transformative power
of art in shaping our perceptions and memories.
The artists in this exhibition approach their practice from a female perspective, challenging
conventional notions of public and private spheres. Whether through their choice of medium or
thematic exploration, they invite viewers to reconsider their relationship with space and its impact
on daily life.
As we navigate our daily routines and movements, our interactions with space influence our sense
of comfort and familiarity. From the moment we awaken to our commute and return home, these
patterns shape our experiences and perceptions. "From the Eyes of Her" prompts us to reflect on
the significance of these routines and the disruptions that awaken us to new possibilities.
Established in 1987, Women’s History Month honors the enduring contributions of women
throughout history. Similarly, the Port Authority, founded in 1921, serves as a cornerstone of
transportation infrastructure, facilitating connectivity and societal development through land, air,
and sea travel. Together, these institutions underscore the vital role of women and infrastructure in
shaping our collective journey towards progress and growth.
